It was early in the afternoon and I was doing my chores.
I picked up my phone to check my notifications,
I saw a missed call, it was from her.
I was excited, with a massive smile on my face,
She hardly calls.
Maybe she called to check up on me or maybe she called to tell me something.
I was contemplating all the possible reasons why she would call.
I hurriedly finished my chores,
Ready to call her back,
Ready to tell her about my day,
Ready to ask how hers was going.
I picked up my phone, I called her.
She picked up, “Hey what’s up?" I said
She responded, “Hey”
Before I could utter another word,
She asked me, "Did you call because you saw my missed call?"
Obviously, I muttered to myself
I said, “Yes”.
“It was a …” she said vaguely
“What?” I said, trying to figure out what she had said.
She tried again “It was …” her voice blurred away again.
“Dude I can hardly hear you” I said to her.
“It was a mistake” She said more clearly this time.
In silence, saddened in my heart, I paused.
The one time she calls and it turns out to be a mistake, how devastating.
“oh okay, have a good day” I said to her and hung up.
